Tukan Hotel & Beach Club has been recognized by EarthCheck -the travel and tourism industry’s environmental management, benchmarking and certification company- as one of the greenest hotels in the world. It is the only hotel in Mexico to make the list.
EarthCheck operates the world’s most scientifically rigorous benchmarking program and measures key indicators such as energy and water consumption, total waste production, and community commitment to provide a holistic picture of operational performance.
Other hotels like the Xinqiao in Beijing and the Flagstaff Gardens in Australia were also named as “Star Performers” in the EarthCheck analysis. The list of the greenest hotels includes countries such as Jamaica, Bali, Australia, China, Dominican Republic, New Zealand, Aruba, among others.
To qualify as a “Star Performer” organizations had to achieve or surpass a best practice rating in eight or more of EarthCheck’s 15 benchmark indicators in such areas as energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and water savings rating. This is the first time that EarthCheck has released the names of the hotels it considers to be the greenest in the world.
Grupo Tukan is aware of the impact its operations may have on the environment, and ensures to be committed to the action program of the World Travel & Tourism Council, based on the agreements reached at the “Earth Summit” in Rio de Janeiro in
