Sunset at the Palms, the all-inclusive, “treehouse-style” adults-only resort in Negril, Jamaica, announces its third annual “Jamaica-Rama!” celebration, kicking off in May and lasting through October. There’s a long list of reasons to visit Jamaica in the value season, including beautiful weather (Jamaica averages a temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit year-round), fewer people on the beaches, smaller crowds at popular attractions and restaurants, shorter lines, and last but certainly not least, some incredibly affordable rates. During Jamaica-Rama!, guests can stay at the resort for as little as 2 per person, per night, with a three-night minimum required.
Many island properties and destinations reduce the number of activities they offer during the summer and fall, but that’s not the case at Sunset at the Palms, where the resort’s friendly staff prides itself on giving guests a true taste of Jamaican culture all year round. During Jamaica-Rama!, the resort invites guests to celebrate their “Sensory Magic” by encouraging them to use all five senses to explore the island paradise. From island cooking classes to mixology classes and even lunch with the resort’s famed pet ambassador, Betty the Goat, there’s much to see and do during this festive season.
Here’s a taste of the weekly lineup of scheduled events during Jamaica-Rama!:
On Monday evenings, guests are invited to meet the hotel management at the weekly manager’s cocktail party at 6 p.m. As a fun bonus, the resort staff also stages a lively and celebratory fashion show during the cocktail hour, showcasing the resort wear from Sunset at the Palms’ gift shop.
The resort’s open-air dining room, Palm Grove, hosts a lineup of themed events that change each evening, and guests can look forward to a biweekly rotating menu that includes Jamaica Nights on Mondays – which pays homages to the island’s classic dishes, including jerk chicken and salt fish (Jamaica’s national dish) – and a Seafood Night on Saturdays that lets guests sample some of the finest and freshest offerings from the Caribbean Sea.
On Tuesdays, guests are in for a real treat with a special lunch with the resort’s beloved pet goat Betty and her family.
As a new activity this year, guests can bring their lunch from the Palm Grove or the Blue Coffee Café and visit with Betty and her family while the goats have their lunch on an adjacent lawn.
Some guests will also be able to feed Betty and her family lunch treats and cookies, which they love.
Wednesdays are designed to help guests slide into the weekend. The resort’s talented bartenders host an afternoon mixology class that teaches visitors how to properly mix Jamaican rum and native fruits, followed by the resort’s festive Sunset BBQ Celebration on the Beach, where guests and staff gather to watch the sun dip into the bay (weather permitting).
Thursday brings the Island Cooking Class at the Beach Grill before guests settle into a weekly movie night that features nostalgic movies filmed in Jamaica, including “Cocktail,” “The Harder They Come,” “Dr. No” and “Cool Runnings.”
Sunset at the Palms invites guests to experience the sensuous warmth of the resort any season of the year. A stay here features air-conditioned accommodations in 85 treehouse-style guest rooms with private balconies; private beach access and a variety of non-motorized sports; tennis courts, a fitness center and swimming pool; all meals and beverages; and Club MoBay VIP arrival service at Sangster Airport in Montego Bay, for fast tracking through immigration and customs.
During Jamaica-Rama!, resort rates start at $152 per person per night, with a three-night minimum stay required. As an added bonus, guests staying at Sunset at the Palms between August 12 and October 31 also receive a $200 resort credit. Jamaica-Rama! runs from May through October.
