Silversea’s Venetian Society voyage concluded emphatically in Lisbon on October 18, 2018 following a varied itinerary which incorporated a number of unique, bespoke events.

Having departed from Monte Carlo on October 9, 2018, Silversea’s Silver Whisper (pictured) visited a number of destinations in France and Spain. Hosted by Fernando Barroso De Oliveira, Silversea’s Executive Chairman’s ambassador to the Venetian Society, the annual voyage unlocked authentic events, activities, receptions and other privileges exclusively for the cruise line’s valued Venetian Society.

A standout highlight of the voyage, Venetian Society guests witnessed a human tower, constructed on the grounds of the Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau in Barcelona—an architectural marvel that is protected by UNESCO World Heritage status. The Catalan tradition of building human towers, also known as castells, has never been staged at this remarkable venue. The captivating presentation, planned and orchestrated exclusively for the guests, featured a human structure that comprised approximately 120 performers standing atop one another. It took place during the ship’s call in the Catalan capital on October 11. The unique event also included a Catalan-inspired banquet at the spectacular Sala Hipóstila pavilion and private tours of the venue.

The human tower was part of an array of enhancements designed to enrich the voyage exclusively for Venetian Society guests.

Among other highlights were two flamenco music and dance presentations, ‘Flamenco Fuego’ and ‘Flamenco Notes,’ performed in the ship’s Show Lounge. Both the human tower tradition and the art of flamenco have earned a place on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, and represent Silversea’s commitment to unlocking the world’s most authentic and amazing experiences.

“This year’s Venetian Society voyage was an enormous success,” says Barroso de Oliveira. “We consider our Venetian Society to be part of Silversea’s extended family. There was a convivial atmosphere throughout the voyage, with likeminded travelers socializing while discovering some of the world’s most incredible destinations.

I look forward to welcoming our Venetian Society aboard in 2019—the year of Silversea’s 25th anniversary.

“It was a great pleasure for me to reconnect with our valued Venetian Society guests to express our appreciation of their loyalty,” says Christian Sauleau, Silversea’s Executive Vice President of Fleet Operations who joined the voyage to meet the guests. “While this year’s voyage was certainly one of our most ambitious, we are already busy planning and working on the special touches that will make next year’s voyage even more enriching and memorable for our guests.”

In 2019, the all-inclusive Silver Spirit’s nine-day Venetian Society voyage from Rome to Monte Carlo, departing on September 29, will offer an immersive exploration of Italy, from Sorrento, Amalfi and Sicily to Sardinia, Livorno and Portofino.
