The Secretary of Tourism for the State of Guerrero, Javier Aluni, has announced that the tourism infrastructure and services within the Sun Triangle destinations – Acapulco, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and Taxco – are open and operating normally following Tropical Storm Manuel, which passed through the region in mid-September.

“We are happy to report that all tourism operations in all three Sun Triangle destinations were resumed shortly following the storm as a result of the hard work and dedication of the hotels and local authorities as well as the support of President Enrique Peña Nieto and our Governor Angel Aguirre Rivero,” said Javier Aluni. “We encourage our national and international visitors to return to Guerrero and experience these destinations first hand. Tourism is the single most important economic activity in the State of Guerrero and it is with the support of our valued travelers that we will rebuild and recover.”

Acapulco, the largest and most iconic of the three Sun Triangle destinations, is reporting that all tourism zones (Traditional, Golden & Diamond) are operating normally, with all roads accessible and safe following Tropical Storm Manuel. The Acapulco Alvarez International Airport is fully functional and servicing national and international flights normally.

Approximately 150 miles northwest of Acapulco, the destination of Ixtapa-Zihutanejo announced that the International Airport, hotels, facilities and tourism infrastructure are operating normally and did not experience any major damage as a result of Tropical Storm Manuel. The Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International Airport remained opened during and following the storm, providing airlift to travelers unable to return home due to road closures in surrounding areas.

National airlines Interjet & Aeromar are currently offering special rates for travelers from Mexico City and Toluca airports to Acapulco and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo from now through the end of October.

The colonial city of Taxco, best known as Mexico’s “silver capital” reported no damages following the storm. All roads to and from Mexico City are open and operating normally, as are all hotels and tourism services.
