This summer feels like a special one. We’re reopening cities, sights, and borders with a new sense of gratitude this year, and we’re thrilled to have travelers here to join us!

Whether you’re one of the “keen and cautious” travelers hitting the road this summer, or you’re just here for the photos and vicarious memories (for now), we’re here for you. We’ve tried to answer the major FAQs below, with some inspiration thrown in. Obviously, we’re excited for tourism to return, so we want to make sure the details are as clear as possible. Having all the right info can help make your trip smooth, and avoid any stressful surprises. We’ve also got some tourism rewards to make the journey even more worthwhile. So, here’s what you should know in advance:

1)     The Czech Republic uses a traffic light system to determine the entry status of different countries. Low-risk (green) countries—including the United States and most of Europe—do not have to quarantine, however starting July 9th US citizens traveling from the US or another green country to Czech Republic need a negative RT-PCR test 72 hours old or less or a negative Antigen test 48 hours old or less from the start of your first flight, and to possess the filled-in the Passenger Form.

2)     Once on the ground, all visitors (including green countries) will need one of the following to check into a hotel, go to a restaurant, shop, or sightsee indoors:

• A negative PCR test less than 3 days old
• A negative antigen test less than 24 hours old
• Single-dose vaccines: Proof of 14 days past dose within the last 9 months
• Double-dose vaccines: Proof of 22 days after 1st dose, within the last 90 days
• Double-dose vaccines: Proof of 22 days after 2nd dose, within the last 9 months
• Medical proof of recovering from COVID-19 in the last 180 days

3)     All travelers should also pack some KN95 or FFP2 masks (called “respirators”). These are required to enter Czech airports, shops, all public transportation (including on platforms and stops), post offices, and taxis or ride shares. Cloth or other face masks are fine for outdoor environments where social distancing is not possible. These mask rules also apply to everyone, including low-risk (green) vaccinated travelers.

4)     Lastly, many airlines may have different rules than the Czech government. ?When booking flights (or trains or any transport) double check whether you’ll need a negative test, a specific mask, or any other proof to keep your travels smooth. We’ll be ready with a warm welcome and rewards for your journey on the other side!

Prague’s Karlín neighborhood grabbed some international attention in June 2021.

TimeOut named K?ižíkova Street one of the coolest in the world thanks to “art nouveau façades”, “converted factories” and “a lofty neo-romanesque church” in the area. Two neighborhood spaces to check out: (1) Kasarna Karlín, hosting live music, outdoor movies, and offbeat events in former army barracks, and (2) P?ístav (“harbor”) 18600, a beer garden, food stalls, playground, events, and family fun in an outdoor environment beside the Vltava River.
Inside tip: a water taxi connects P?ístav 18600 with Holešovice, an up-and-coming district of art and design.

Enjoying life outdoors has long been a Czech pastime for many reasons (e.g. beauty, fresh air) long before the past year added an emphasis on outdoor fun. That love of nature translates to some beautiful gardens for all types of travelers:

• chateau gardens, surrounding stately homes with flowers and greenery
• beer gardens, including the brews & views from Letná park
• the prevalence of Prague parks, from large to small
• Vineyards count as gardens, too, right? They sure do in South Moravia!

Inside tip: the gardens around the Prague Castle’s Royal Summer Palace is one of the prettiest places to enter the complex.

That’s right, after so many months spent indoors, we’re sticking with suggestions for fresh air fun in the Czech Republic.
