The 2014 Adventure Travel Mexico (ATMEX) event has officially relocated to adventure travel hub, Chiapas, Mexico. This is the third year that Visit Mexico, in partnership with the Adventure Travel Trade Association, will host ATMEX with the goals of bringing awareness to Mexico’s adventure travel offerings, providing educational opportunities and creating a foundation for long-term business partnerships.

“ATMEX was conceived as an event which would move yearly in order for us to be able to showcase the best of the best adventure travel opportunities in Mexico.

Though ATMEX in Veracruz has been very successful, now it is time for Chiapas, one of the top adventure destinations in Mexico, to be highlighted,” stated Executive Director of Latin America, Antonio Del Rosal.

“We are very happy to return here after the Adventure Travel World Summit which was held in 2011. Chiapas has a unique blend of nature and culture paralleled by very few destinations around the world. It’s the perfect venue for ATMEX.”

From August 27 – 30, over 400 inbound Mexican operators, outbound tour operators, international buyers and media will gather to learn more about the benefits of offering adventure travel in Mexico. Through a dynamic business-to-business marketplace and educational sessions on adventure travel best practices and trends, ATMEX attendees will walk away with insights and new partnerships that will help them grow the adventure travel industry in Mexico.

Prior to and following ATMEX, Chiapas and Mexican states such as the Yucatan, Oaxaca, San Luis Potosi, among others will offer a series of expense-paid familiarization trips for qualified buyers and media that will showcase those destinations.

Adventure highlights may include colonial cities and coffee plantations, wide turquoise rivers and lagoons, Mayan ancient cities only reachable by boat, jungles, cloud forests and coastal swamps. While hiking, biking and rafting participants may experience endemic wildlife and ancient living cultures.

ATMEX’s inauguration cocktail and “Day of Adventures” will take place in San Cristobal, August 26th and 27th; the marketplace, concurrent and plenary sessions will take place in Tuxtla Convention Center August 28th and 29th.

The ATTA is developing the educational component for ATMEX as well as inviting key outbound buyers from around the world with an interest in understanding and selling adventure travel trips to Mexico. To learn more about ATMEX and pre-register as a buyer or media, visit the 2014 ATMEX website.
