A couple of years ago an article in GQ Magazine called Placencia Village “a quaint town that seems to have forgotten about mass tourism.” And, now this little village is the base for a beautiful combination marathon and Belize vacation.

“Placencia Village and the Peninsula provide an incredibly scenic setting for an event such as the 2nd annual Placencia Marathon,” said Mr. Coh, “with views of the lagoon and Maya mountains to the west and the brilliant blue waters of the Caribbean to the east, the entire length of the course.”

The 26.2 mile marathon course begins at the football/soccer field at the bottom of the peninsula, goes through Placencia Village, past Chabil Mar, Seine Bight Village, and Maya Beach, with multiple views of the Caribbean Sea and the mountains along the way. The course then loops back a few miles south of Riversdale. The 13.1 mile half marathon course begins at the marathon turnaround and both races finish in Placencia Village.

The race begins on Sunday, December 8, 2013 in Placencia Village with a 5:30 am marathon start and at the same time for the half-marathon start, 13.

1 miles north on the Peninsula, at the Marathon mid-point. The “fun run” (1 or 2 miles) begins at 9:30 am, all followed by an 11:30 am awards ceremony.

At noon is the post-race party.”

“And while in Belize, why not follow your achievements by vacationing in a premier adventure vacation destination like Placencia?”, asks Mr. Coh.
