Following a multi-million-dollar redevelopment, the 166 room InterContinental Hayman Island Resort has opened its doors on The Great Barrier Reef in Australia’s Whitsundays.

Travelers will experience:

The Beach Wing has 16 new retreat rooms, each with an outdoor shower and private courtyard. While an additional 11 suites have been added to the Pool Wing. Of note for group planners is that you can book an entire wing of the resort for a semi-exclusive event.

The Hayman Spa has been completely refurbished. The Spa features 13 treatment rooms and a range of wellness experiences such as clean-eating meal plans, sunrise yoga and meditation classes.

A bevy of restaurants and bars have been added to the resort’s portfolio, including the Pacific, which features an outdoor terrace with ocean views.

The resort boasts a range of new experiences for groups including a stand up paddleboard tour of Hayman Island’s hidden coves, a team challenge to test guests mentally and physically with a series of activities on land and in water, and our favourite – a seaplane flight over popular reefs including Bait, Hook, Hardy and Heart Reef before landing in the coral fringed Hardy Lagoon to snorkel.

Hayman Island is one of the 74 islands that make up the Whitsundays and one of only four that offer resort accommodation.

Access to Hayman Island is via a 60-minute luxury boat transfer or a 15-minute seaplane or helicopter flight from Hamilton Island. Hamilton Island Airport has direct services from Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
