Marking its 73rd year, Alexander+Roberts continues its expansion with a new Small Ship Journey to Antarctica and South Georgia Island – highlighted by the total solar eclipse that will sweep across the South Atlantic on December 4, 2021. Departing from Ushuaia, Argentina on November 24, travelers will set out aboard a brand new, next-generation Polar vessel.
Reflecting the latest in marine engineering like its innovative X-bow prow for maximum stability and fuel efficiency, the intimate Ocean Victory will feature first-in-class luxury amenities including a complete spa and wellness center, stylish public lounges, a top deck viewing platform, state-of-the-art lecture lounge, and fine dining in two distinctive venues. Spacious outside staterooms offer 236 to 450 square feet of stylishly appointed space; 90% of the cabins feature a private balcony.
Exclusive 17-day Tour + Cruise Itinerary
Alexander+Roberts guests will begin their Solar Eclipse Journey with a 2-night pre-cruise stay at the luxury Arakur Resort & Spa, set on a forested ridge in the Cerro Alarken Nature Reserve overlooking Ushuaia. After a guided tour of Tierra del Fuego National Park, A+R guests will transfer to the pier to begin their 14-night cruise:
On the morning of December 4, 2021, the Ocean Victory will be positioned east of South Orkney Island where the sun will be just 11 degrees above the horizon and the total eclipse will last for nearly two full minutes.
Guests will also spend several days exploring the waters and coasts of South Georgia Island – home to vast King Penguin rookeries, a wide variety of seabirds, and numerous marine mammals including mighty Elephant Seals that rule the beaches. After the solar eclipse, the Ocean Victory will voyage onward to the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands where Zodiac excursions and shore landings will reveal more of the wildlife and raw beauty of the southern seas.
