CW Safaris’ southeast African coastal adventure Mozambique: Ibo Island Dhow Safari has been named one of National Geographic Traveler’s “50 Tours of a Lifetime” for 2015. The new Safari by the active and experiential travel company debuted in January.

The Mozambique: Ibo Island Dhow Safari is a private, fully guided, tailor-made, island-hopping safari through the Quirimbas Islands.

Highlights of the itinerary include dhow sailing, snorkeling, kayaking, and sleeping in mobile eco-fly camps on uninhabited tropical islands. Guests sail among vibrant fish and untouched coral reefs atop a wooden dhow, a traditional sailing vessel of the Indian Ocean. Travelers will also encounter the remains of Portuguese forts, bustling fishing villages, and half-submerged mangroves harboring green-backed herons and crab plovers.

The leave-no-trace eco-camps used throughout the adventure combine beachside repose with safari sophistication, and locally caught seafood is roasted on an open fire under the stars for guests to indulge in.

The eight-day, seven-night safari also includes three nights in the spectacular waterfront Ibo Island Lodge.

“Like all CW Safari offerings, the Mozambique: Ibo Island Dhow Safari puts travelers right where they ought to be, immersed in the natural beauty, unique culture and adventure of Africa, while traveling in safety and style,” said Sonya Bradley, Product Director at CW Safaris.

“We are pleased that National Geographic Traveler has selected the safari as one of its 50 Tours of a Lifetime and look forward to hosting guests on an adventure they won’t forget.”

National Geographic Traveler’s ninth annual roundup of “50 Tours of a Lifetime” highlights the most authentic, most innovative, most immersive, best-guided and most sustainable tours.
