National Geographic Traveler revealed its ‘50 Tours of Lifetime’ collection featuring H+I Adventures’ Namibia Mountain Biking Safari. Crush sand beneath fat tires, spot elephant, rhino, lion and leopard, and take a breather by an inland watering hole, there is nothing like experiencing an award-winning African safari on two-wheels. The active journey features Namibia’s less-travelled corners, as well as hotspots, such as Windhoek, Swakopmund, Etosha National Park, and Sossusvlie. The twelve–day tour of a lifetime departs December 5, 2015, April 2, 2016 and September 17, 2016.
“It is an honour to be handpicked by National Geographic Traveler and included in this year’s impressive collection of trips,’” said Euan Wilson, Director, H+I Adventures. “Namibia is a wild destination for the curious adventurer. Our riders tackle the country’s red dirt tracks, sleep under the stars, search for black rhinos and meet Himba tribesman, making it one of the most diverse biking holidays available.”
Lead by knowledgeable Namibian guides, travelers explore the Southwest African landscape and connect with wildlife and indigenous communities like the Riemvasmakers cultural group. Trip highlights include climbing to the top of Big Daddy, the highest sand dune in the world, indulging in barbecued kudu steaks, and pedalling from the starkly beautiful Skeleton Coast to the Huab river, home to desert elephants and lions.
Riders can expect to cycle between 20 – 80 kilometres per day, with some moderate climbs and descents. The mountain biking safari features some singletrack riding with a few more technical sections to fine tune skills. At night, travellers will unwind with a cold Windhoek beer at luxury safari camps, farmhouses, homestays and small hotels.
The Namibia Mountain Biking Safari costs $3,978 per person, and includes taxes, airport transfers, 11 nights’ accommodation, most meals and Global Rescue medical and emergency evacuation services.
