The Get All Right clipper ship arrives in NYC.

From the arrival of the Get All Right clipper ship in New York to chef demonstrations and cultural activities at Rum & Rhythm, Jamaica had much to celebrate last week during the annual Caribbean Week in New York City.

After leaving Jamaica’s Errol Flynn Marina on May 24, the ‘JAMAICA Get All Right’ clipper arrived in New York City on Monday, May 30, completing the 13th race of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), Dennis Morrison, along with Business Development Manager, Chris Dobson, welcomed the crew at North Cove Marina during the annual Caribbean Week in NYC. To celebrate the crew’s success, the JTB held a sail around Manhattan for Jamaica Travel Specialists, who enjoyed jerk chicken and rice and peas prepared by Jamaican restaurant, Miss Lily’s. The Jamaica Tourist Board is the sponsor of Jamaica Get All Right’s participation in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. The eighth leg of the race departed on June 7 from New York to Derry-Londonderry, Northern Ireland.

Hosts of ‘Two Sisters and a Meal’, Jamaican Chefs Suzanne and Michelle Rousseau showcased their recently launched cookbook, Caribbean Potluck: Modern Recipes from Our Family Kitchen. The Rousseau sisters participated in several events and cooking demonstrations at locations around Manhattan including, Bloomingdale’s, Williams-Sonoma and The Brooklyn Kitchen. New Yorkers got a glimpse of the diverse fusion of flavors and ingredients from Jamaica to Trinidad that has influenced the sisters cooking style.

Jamaica closed out the week at the annual Rum & Rhythm event where patrons were treated to traditional jerk chicken wings with rice and peas prepared by local restaurant Spur Tree, along with Appleton rum and Grace Foods Coconut Water. The event, held at Tribeca 360 on Friday, June 9th, is a showcase of the different Caribbean flavors including national rums.
