Azores is an archipelago of nine islands located in the Atlantic Ocean about midway between Boston and mainland Portugal. The closest point to Europe from the United States, the Azores is an autonomous region of Portugal, and just four hours by plane from Boston.
The islands are becoming increasingly well known for eco-tourism, golf, and unique European cuisine.
Lisbon is about the size of Boston and is perched on the northern bank of the Tejo River, where the river meets the Atlantic. Built on seven hills it is the warmest and westernmost capital in Europe. Porto is located in the North of Portugal and has just been elected as The Best European Destination for 2014.
SATA offers inter-island flights to each of the islands in the Azores as well.
