Jamaica welcomed the first nonstop international flight from Southwest Airlines on July 1, 2014. The inaugural flight from Baltimore/Washington International Airport touched down at Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay with three more Southwest flights arriving throughout the day.
This marks the start of nonstop service from three of Southwest’s major hubs in the U.S. to Montego Bay, Jamaica. The Baltimore/Washington route will operate twice daily from Baltimore Washington International into Montego Bay. The airline will also operate daily service out of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International and Orlando’s International airport.
“We are extremely pleased that Southwest Airlines has selected Jamaica as its first international destination” said Dennis Morrison, Chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board. “The four Southwest flights which landed at the Sangster International Airport today, shows the strong partnership that is being developed between the destination and the airline. The additional flights will make it easier for visitors in the Baltimore, Atlanta and Orlando markets to plan their Jamaican vacation.”
