Sofitel Cartagena Santa Clara Becomes First Latin America Hotel In Sofitel “Legend” Category



The cloister of the Clarist nuns was built in 1621 and is a not only a city icon but one of the country’s most important reference points in Luxury Hotels, and now it gives way to the new Legend category by Sofitel.

The unique properties in the “Legend” category are part of a selected collection of hotels characterized by their location within iconic buildings and palaces, each one of them having its own personality, colorful stories and more than a century of legendary moments. Each hotel guards endless legends and is a symbol of the place, characters and scenarios that form part of the local culture; they have become emblematic buildings within a destination.

Sofitel Santa Clara is the fourth hotel to enter into the “Legend” category. Its predecessors are: the Sofitel Legend Metropole in Hanoi,Vietnam, Sofitel Legend Old Cataract in Aswan, Egypt, and Sofitel The Grand in Amsterdam.

On December 12, 2012 Sofitel Legend Cartagena Santa Clara joins the elite as one of the best hotels in the world. An iconic building with three centuries of legendary stories ranging from the colonial times of the Spanish conquest, where it witnessed pirate invasions and the defense of the city in the seventeenth century, through the Republican period of the nineteenth century, it began to mark the pulse of the country’s luxury hotels during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
