“This year’s winners are truly deserving of the awards bestowed upon them because they reflect the true spirit of Caribbean tourism professionals. We are proud to have these four individuals representing the Caribbean region,” Alec Sanguinetti, director general and CEO of CHTA.

Caribbean Tourism Employee of the Year

As senior sales reception coordinator, Ms. Daniel is considered to be an exemplary employee and role model associate for her colleagues at Marriott Frenchman’s Cove in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Her supervisors cite her willingness to obtain complete customer satisfaction and the personalized interaction she has with guests as a reason why the property has improved its overall scores in this area. Ms. Daniel has been recognized by her peers for her efforts on behalf of guests as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands Hotel & Tourism Association with the 2011 Tommy Star Hotel Associate of the Year Award.

Mrs. Gumbs-Samuel is recognized as one of the most proactive association executives in the region as she is always one of the first local hotel association executives to respond to requests made by CHTA. She works hard to incorporate both the private sector and public sector on Anguilla and along with the tourism authority on her island, she has been tirelessly promoting CHTA’s “Tourism is Key” campaign with posters, banners and ads in the newspapers to raise awareness of the importance of tourism to Anguilla and the Caribbean region. Mrs. Gumbs-Samuel works hard every year to bring together a team of chefs and bartenders to compete in CHTA’s “Taste of the Caribbean Culinary” competition. National association executives from across the Caribbean region say that Mrs. Gumbs-Samuel exemplifies the true meaning of service.

Caribbean Allied Member of the Year

“Louise John has been a tremendous force in the Caribbean region and her dedication to the CHTA Education Foundation and its scholarship winners is unparalleled,” added Sanguinetti.

She is a trustee and selection committee chair of the CHTA Education Foundation where she always puts in a tremendous amount of time raising money for the scholarships. Ms. John is recognized by her colleagues for adding that personal touch when working with the Caribbean national students who win the scholarships to achieve their goals in seeking a higher education in the hospitality and tourism industry. Recently, Ms. John has undertaken the task of rebuilding the Haitian community and organizing fundraisers for the Haiti Culinary team to compete for the first time in CHTA’s Taste of the Caribbean.
